RIVER RUN & EVENT

Several months ago the founder from the H.O.O.V.E.S. program, Amanda Thompson brought a horse saddle in to Pride Leather Company to be re-conditioned. Our shop strongly supports our Troops and through conversations with Amanda, I learned about the work being done to help our veterans using Horses in a non-traditional therapeutic way to help overcome P.T.S.D.

Having studied Equine Psychology myself, I decided to put on a poker run to raise funds for the program. It soon became obvious that more needed to be done. The Motorcycle Poker Run was quickly changed to a “River Run and Event”. Both riders and non riders alike could all see first-hand how this program actually works through a series of demonstrations after the run; the Demos would help raise awareness of this awesome program, and the auction would raise funds. “It became the Steel Horse Run to a Real Horse Event”.

In spite of the fact that it was cold, wet, and very foggy we had 30 bikes show up at the shop to ride along the Maumee River from Grand Rapids, Ohio to Oregon, Ohio to see the demos and bid on the auction items. Together we raised over a thousand dollars at the event and with more donations coming in after the event it’s closed at over $1,200.00.
